INTRODUCTION
After you chosen the molecule, its physical properties will be displayed. You can then choose the units in which you want them to be displayed. For some gases (nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, etc), knowing the pressure, you can calculate the temperature and density of the liquid phase at any point on the liquid-vapor equilibrium curve. The software also enables the liquid-phase equivalent of a mass or volume of gas to be calculated. The reverse calculation is also possible. For each gas, a link to the material safety data sheet (MSDS) is suggested. Vapour pressure curves are available in this site for a certain number of gases.
USER GUIDE:
1) Molecule search:
• Formula search: The formula search routine will find all the continuous molecules in the database with same raw formula. You may specify the raw formula in any order (such as NH3 or H3N).
• Name search: The name search option lists all the molecules in alphabetical order in your language.
• UN transportation number search: Typing the UN number in the cell enables the molecule possessing this number to be found.
2) Units
You may choose the units in which you want the numerical values to be displayed. By default, SI or US/Imperial units are selected.
3) Thermodynamic data
Thermal properties (enthalpy, boiling point, thermal conductivity, etc), transport data (density of gas and liquid phase, viscosity), etc, are given mainly under standard or normal conditions. In addition, flammability limits, safety data and transportation codes are indicated. Vapor pressure curves may be obtained, where they exist, by clicking on the corresponding image.
4) Gas-Liquid conversion module
The module works with the units chosen above. Starting from the volume or the mass of a gas in liquid phase (at its boiling point and under 1 atm), it calculates the volume and the mass of the gas in gaseous phase (under standard conditions: 15°C and 1 atm). The reverse calculation is also possible.
5) Applications
Information is given on the main industrial uses of the gases. A link opens the pages where Air Liquide shows how it implements these applications.
6) Compatibility with materials
Air Liquide has assembled data on the compatibility of gases with materials to assist you in evaluating which products to use for a gas system. Although the information has been compiled from what Air Liquide believes are reliable sources (International Standards: Compatibility of cylinder and valve materials with gas content; Part 1: ISO 11114-1 (Jul 1998), Part 2: ISO 11114-2 (Mar 2001)), it must be used with extreme caution. No raw data such as this can cover all conditions of concentration, temperature, humidity, impurities and aeration. It is therefore recommended that this table is used to choose possible materials and then more extensive investigation and testing is carried out under the specific conditions of use.
7) Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
The European MSDS are made available for information only. Visitors to this site may only use them at their own risk. The MSDSs were prepared by EIGA ( the European Industrial Gas Association) according to European Union standards. Although Air Liquide believes the information in the MSDSs to be correct, Air Liquide cannot be held responsible in any event if the contents do not meet the regulatory requirements of countries outside the European Union. MSDSs are subject to revision. Refer to this web site to ensure that you have the latest version.
